Matthew and Sarah. Turning 22, getting married, crossing separate sides of the Atlantic to finally make a home in the same country. This is the story of our journey.

"Date Night" Idea

Whenever I'm away from my sweet Matthew I always spend lots of time thinking about all the fun things we can do when we're together (and especially things that are cheap!). I found this website where they have cute date ideas that all cost $30 or less, and they had the idea to have an Italian themed night that I think sounded fun.

We could make our own pizza - one website suggested M&M pizza! Perfect for Matt?
I don't know if I've ever made pizza from scratch. There was only that one time that grandma tried to when I was little, and she put slices of tomatoes on it because she thought it would cook down into a sauce (which, needless to say, it did not do)! Yuck!

We could buy some nice wine and watch a classic Italian film like...Or maybe...
And best of all we can finish it off with...

And I also think we should buy this "Amore: Romantic Italian Love Songs" Cd:
Well this is my first post on here and first things first im super excited and looking forward to just getting this year finished. After this no more university. There comes a time when you realise you have studied enough and just want to get on with everything else - Im pretty sure the prospect of getting married is a factor in why I feel this way!

Yesterday I had some of my family ask me a million questions about the marriage. It made me realise how much their seems to be to plan. I think I've decided im only going to invite my close family and a few friends as were also going to have a celebration back in England after the marriage anyway! I feel that way theres no pressure for people to come, especially if were not even going to be spending lots on the wedding - seems unfair to get everyone to fly half way around the world for a cheap wedding. Thinking about all this though I realised one super important thing- im doing this for me and its the one time I can be selfish so im not going to worry too much about offending people - this is mine and Sarahs day and we shouldnt have to worry about stuff like that! I hate mind games and confusion with people and wondering who I could offend etc- this is our day and thats all I care about.

The main other issue that came up was when it was going to so they could all book time off work- however I've told them a number of times now- I cant tell them that until I get a job so they'lll have to wait. . .

So my conclusion for my first blog is.... I am super excited for the process I have begun to undertake with my gorgeous Sarah but I realise theirs alot of factors and issues to think about, from planning the marriage to having money to do it and then to getting Sarah over here! Its going to be a hectic year.... One things for sure though- were going to be married and spend our lives together - knowing this is enough to get me through anything that might come up.

Wedding Inspiration!

Every time I tell someone that we are planning on having the wedding in July, they always get this shocked expression on their face - almost as though I had just told them we were having the wedding this weekend. They say, "Oh, that's so soon! We've got to start planning right now!" I've never planned a wedding before, so maybe ten months really isn't that much time to get everything together. Either way I'm not stressing out about it yet. Especially because we're (so far) planning on having the wedding and reception at my house, so it's not like I have to scramble to book a place.

I have been looking at websites and magazines to try and get some inspiration and so far this is what I've come up with.

In order to keep costs for everyone low and because I don't think the wedding will really be that formal, I was thinking about having the bridesmaids choose their own dresses, as long as they were all shades of the same color and cut around the same length like this picture. I haven't really decided yet if that's a bad idea or not...

I also really liked some pictures that I saw of receptions that we outside in the evening with lanterns and fairy lights and candles. Derek suggested that we get some chandeliers and hang them from the trees. I think that would be really beautiful.

I found some pictures of weddings that were inspired by Alice in Wonderland - decadent tea parties with lots of ornamental details and small lights.

I really like the lights in this picture, and how the reception looks against the evening sky.

I thought it would be a cute idea to string up notes from the guests like this. They could write down their pieces of advice and congratulations and then string them up as decoration so everyone can enjoy them. I also thought it might be fun to string up photos of Matt and me this way.
I love you Sarah Tyler :)
